* KULTUR CINE CLUB SHOWCASES @ 42 NEW BRIGGATE GALLERY

Kultur Cine Club screened a strong showcase with a selection of exciting short films at 42 New Briggate Gallery from Sunday 26 to Wednesday 29 August, from 5-6pm every evening.
42 New Briggate Gallery is a space set up by Lucy Gibson and Yvonne Carmichael in conjunction with Opera North Projects. The gallery has played host to four exhibitions which coincided and connected with Opera North's Productions. To find out more please click here.
* KULTUR CINE CLUB SHOWCASE @ UNITY DAY (Hyde Park, Leeds)

Kultur Cine Club showcased a programme of exciting short films at the Unity Day at Hyde Park on Saturday 4 August. Hyde Park Unity Day is an association of individuals who give their time and talents freely to create a day celebrating our area and our diversity. The event was a huge success, attended by thousands of people from all walks of life.
EVENTS' BACKGROUND: The riots in 1995 attracted intense national media coverage and this led to a negative portrayal of the area. The mission is to: create a relaxed friendly and safe environment; unite the community and provide an opportunity to highlight the positive aspects of living, working, and studying in Hyde Park; demonstrate communities strength through voluntary involvement; celebrate cultural diversity through art, music and performance; create a focus point for community activities; and unite and provide opportunities to showcase skills, talent and nature of local people and artists. * KULTUR CINE CLUB showcases @ MOOR FESTIVAL 2007

Kultur Cine Club will be bringing to the Moor Fest film lovers an exciting programme of short films and documentaries from the best in UK and world cinema talent to be screened each evening in the Green Room. On the cards are a jam of cultures and different points of view that will engage, inspire and challenge your perceptions, “because the world is closer than you think”.

* Season Two: Perspectives

Kultur Cine Club is back! We've moved to our funky new venue, the HiFi club (2 Central Rd, Leeds, LS1 6DE). This season, we'll be bringing you:
- 11 award-winner shorts from directors such as Ken Loach (Sweet Sixteen, The Wind that Shakes the Barley), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarrito (Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel) and Sean Penn, on their perspectives on the September 11th events;
- UK and regional up-and-coming talent in collaboration with Four Docs, Animate!, Film London, Screen East, Screen South and regional filmmakers and local initiative, Cut Off Trousers;
- food and informal discussions about the films, their subject matter and filmmakers.
Opening Night: 12 March
Season Two Opening Night will be bringing Tony O'Reilly, the director of Avow, to talk about his film and a Q&A. The 20/20/02 Vision: Music Video Competition team will also be available to do a call out for the 2007 Competition.
Second Night: 14 April
ANIMATE! EXTENDING THE IMAGE 2 (1990 - 2006): Kultur will be showcasing the only animate! programme in support to their ‘call for submissions’ in the north of the UK. Philip Ilson, co-founder of the Halloween Short Film Festival and programmer for the London International Film Festival and Encounters, will be introducing the programme and available for a Q&A.
Third Night: 9 May
Kultur will be hosting a discussion followed by a Q&A to get you in the mood for Cannes. Our guest speaker, HUGO HEPPELL (HEAD OF PRODUCTION, SCREEN YORKSHIRE), will give the A-Z on attending Cannes for festival virgins, followed by a Q&A. Please click here for the notes.
Closing Night: 13 Jun
Kultur will be showcasing 4 exciting short films from up-and-coming UK talent and directors such as actor/director Sean Penn and famous world cinema directors Claude Le Louch (Cannes Palme d’Or and Oscar winner for Un Homme, Une Femme), Shohei Imamura (Cannes Palme d’Or winner for Ballad of Narayama and The Eel) and Danis Tanovic (Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Foreign Film for No Man's Land).

* Situation Leeds 07 & Kultur Cine Club present Social Club Film Night

Kultur's Ana Cristina Santos, in collaboration with East Street Arts, present a programme of films that explore social activity and reaction in the face of political and economic inequality and exploitation, both in our own backyards and within the larger global community. Films touch on the idea of ‘micro utopias’ across different cultures to escape the harsh realities of everyday life.
* Season One: Views on Brazil

Opening Night: 15 Nov
Kultur Cine Club is about to launch! Season One will focus on the best in Brazilian cinema. Andrew Tudor (Head of Theatre, Film and TV, University of York) and Stephanie Dennison (Director of the Centre of Brazilian Film Studies, University of Leeds and Oxford University) will be introducing the films and available for a Q&A. We'll welcome you with a lovely drink of caipirinha to help you party in pure Brazilian style!
Second Night: 22 Nov
This week, we'll take you on a journey through the musical traditions of Brazil. The night will be presented by native Tatiana Heise (PhD student, University of Leeds), who will offer an insight into the importance of music when considering Brazil.
Third Night: 29 Nov
We will be showing the award-winner short film Palace II and the episode Post from the series City of Men from the same directors and some of the casting of City of God. The screenings will be followed by a Q&A failitated by Andrew Tudor, Stephanie Dennison, Tatiana Heise and Kultur's Ana Cristina Santos.
Closing Night: 6 Dec
We will be showing the award-winner documentary Fala Tu (Lives of Rhyme) and due to passionate requests, will be bringing back the short film A Pessoa É Para o Que Nasce (You Are What You Are Born For). The screenings will be followed by a Q&A, facilitated by Kultur's Ana Cristina Santos and Guy Weston and Benedict Hoff (PhD student at University of Liverpool).
* Ahlaam UK Premier and Human Film Oscar launch party

Kultur will be promoting Mohamed Al-Daradji's directorial debut, Ahlaam (Dreams, 2006) long-awaited UK premiere at the Leeds International Film Festival 06. The UK premiere will be followed by the launch party of his production company, Human Film. Join Kultur and Human Film to celebrate the amazing news that Ahlaam has been chosen for consideration to represent Iraq at the Academy Awards 2007.
